Here, we used contrasting colors to give this complete kitchen remodel a grounded feel. Cork flooring absorbs sound and keeps it warm to the touch of bare feet. Custom, shaker-style cabinet panels take a cue from the original crown molding to make for ample and elegant storage. To do some serious cooking, we installed a robust Wolf range next to a charming bar and wine moment for pre-dinner drinks.
In the bathroom, we considered every square inch of space. Medicine cabinet mirrors create storage and prioritize tub space for our frequent-bather client. An inset niche in terracotta gives easy access to bathtime essentials. The hinged glass panel can disappear to maintain optionality in the petit space.
This 1930s Spanish Revival is unique for the Bay Area and its original exterior plaster and interior beams inspired us to keep it bright and rustic inside. Our sconces, light fixtures and layers of natural fibers, forged metal and wood nod to the architecture. The Crypton fabric sofa and leather club chair–patinated well–will hold up to dogs and children-to-be amidst other durable materials. We painted the bedrooms and kitchen in airy, delicate tones to accentuate sunlight. And to bring out the joyful side of these solid spaces, we wove together playful threads of pattern, color and art throughout.
