Oakland Kitchen

This sweet 1912 craftsman home in Oakland needed a kitchen that better reflected the meaning of the space for our clients. We demolished it and removed everything except the existing Edgewood stove which remains a proud, antique centerpiece. We went with a humble, shaker style that creates an open backdrop and spotlights the natural textures our clients love.

We filled their new space with earth-tone pottery, rich woods and subtle, brass fixtures. Above the durable, black granite countertops is a tile backsplash from Heath Ceramics that reflects the home’s California heritage. Creme wainscotting and window cases bring a quiet elegance to the room’s periphery. These were the rare clients we could convince to go with a black walnut surface for the island. They care enough about patina and character to maintain it as it ages into something beautiful and unique–a timeless centerpiece for a space true to their needs.
